Lar de Criancas Bom Samaritano

SDM has supported this very worthwhile charity in the past by providing Christmas presents and our own Jimmy Goodfellow taking on the role as Santa Claus.

Lar de Criancas Bom Samaritano is a private Social Solidarity Institution and has been a home for boys and girls since 1993. The home receives children from 5 to 12 years old that live in risk and/or dangerous social situations. Currently, the staff looks after 17 boys and 17 girls varying in age from 5 to 20.

SdM secured a place in the semi finals of the Knock Out competition with a great result against a very strong side from Quinta do Lago.

In a side containing four singe figure lady golfers it was always going to be tough, and it turned out to be so. The only match not to go to the final few holes was a magnificent 6&5 win by Gary Bristow and Club Captain Euan Pyper

Our thanks to New Shirt sponsors O Canto Restaurant in Ferragudo and Pestana Golf Resorts, the team looked reslplendant in the new colours.

Kath's home baking was the perfect partner for a welcoming coffee, served with a smile by Wendy. 40 SdM members put on their wellies to pick as much fruit as they wanted from the orchard, raising yet more funds for Captain Euan's charity. A leisurely lunch at Frango Dourado was the perfect way to round off another great original event by Social Secretary Marja. Perhaps we can do it again next year?
But if anyone would like to come and pick their own fruit while it is still in season, please let David and Mags know.

It has to be said that weather in the days leading up to the event and the prevailing weather forecast looked like it would be another washout a la 2017. However despite waking up to skies reminiscent of an April morning in the Rhondda Valley the decision was taken to go ahead with the Pairs Seattle Shambles event and luckily the rain stayed away long enough for the majority of the field to get around without getting too wet.
